How we work with writers

At Ink-Stained Hearts, writing is both ink and heart: shaped by craft, rooted in voice. Everything we offer grows from a simple guiding principle: to strengthen writing without erasing what makes it alive. We offer editing, collaborative writing support, and author guidance designed to meet writers at different stages of their work.

Some writers come to us with a clear sense of what they need. Others arrive with a piece of writing that feels close, but not quite settled. Both are welcome here.

Editing

Editing is an act of attention. It begins with reading carefully, listening closely, and understanding the intentions already present in the text.

We offer thoughtful, voice-preserving editorial support that brings clarity, structure, and confidence to writing, while respecting its rhythm and integrity. The aim is never to impose a style, but to help the work become more fully itself.

Whether a piece needs structural perspective or fine-grained attention, editing here is approached as a collaborative process, not a corrective one.

Writing

Sometimes writing benefits from another presence in the room.

We offer collaborative writing support for authors who are shaping ideas, refining language, or finding the right form for what they want to say. This may involve drafting, reworking existing material, or helping ideas move from outline to finished text.

Writing support is always guided by the voice and intentions of the author. Our role is to support the process with clarity and care, not to replace it.

Author services

Writing rarely happens in isolation. Beyond the page itself, authors often need space to think, reflect, and navigate the wider process of authorship.

Our author services offer thoughtful guidance and practical support across different stages of writing projects. This may include mentoring, long-term editorial support, or help making sense of next steps.

These services are grounded in conversation, trust, and respect for the work as it unfolds.

Finding the right starting point

If you’re unsure which service best fits your work, that’s completely natural. Many projects don’t arrive neatly labelled.

You’re welcome to get in touch to talk through what you’re working on and what kind of support might be most helpful as a starting point. Sometimes clarity emerges through conversation. From there, we can decide together what the next step might be.

How booking works

Because each project receives dedicated time and attention, all services are booked into our editorial calendar in advance. A booking is secured with an advance payment, which reserves space specifically for your work.

As that time is set aside exclusively, the advance payment is non-refundable. If plans need to change, we will always do our best to reschedule where availability allows.

When supporting publishers and authors, Caroline takes care to understand the brief and deliver a bespoke service. Her vibrant presence across social media, supporting authors and publishers, allows her to share her delight in the written word and engage a broad spectrum of readers.
